What is Just Start?

Just Start (German: Mach einfach) is a workout app for iOS and Android. The app delivers ready-made 15-minute training sessions with voice guidance. There's nothing to count, nothing to plan, nothing to look up. The app tells you what to do, counts the time, and tells you when the next exercise starts. After 15 minutes, the workout is done.

The app is free, ad-free, and requires no user account. Available for iPhone (iOS 17+) and Android (8.0+).

Who is it for?

For people who know they should move more but don't want a gym and don't have time for complicated training plans. The typical user is working, has a family, and a full schedule. No bodybuilding program. No half-marathon plan. Something you can just start, at home, without preparation.

Just Start is not for sports enthusiasts looking for detailed training logs, rep counters, or hundreds of exercise variations. The app deliberately has few plans, few settings, and no flood of statistics. It's for getting started: build a habit, stick with it, feel results. If after a few months you want more, that's the best success this app can have.

How does a workout work?

Each workout lasts 15 minutes and follows a fixed pattern: 35 seconds of exercise, 10 seconds rest, next exercise. The app shows the current exercise, counts down, and announces the next one via voice. You don't count reps. You do the exercise as well as you can until the app says "next."

There are six training plans: upper body strength, bodyweight without equipment, legs and core, posture and pain relief, chest and shoulders, and dumbbell upper body. In the settings, you specify what equipment you have (none, dumbbells, cable machine), and the app shows only matching plans.

Groups and motivation

Create a group and invite friends with a 6-digit code. In the group, everyone sees who trained this week and how long their current streak is. The goal is positive social pressure: if your friend already did two workouts this week and you haven't started, that's the push you need.

Members can send each other nudges, short motivation messages delivered as push notifications. One message per person per day, max 200 characters. No chat, no feed, no social media. Just a quick push: "Hey, did you train today?"

When all group members reach their training goal in the same week, it's celebrated as a perfect week. Everyone gets a notification.

Streaks and the Joker

The app counts how many consecutive weeks you reach your training goal. The default goal is 3 workouts per week (adjustable from 2 to 4). Each week you hit the goal extends your streak by one.

Per 12-week cycle, you get one joker. The joker is a recovery week: you miss your goal but your streak stays intact. So you don't lose months of progress after an illness, a vacation, or a stressful week. The joker is used manually – the app does not use it automatically.

What Just Start is not

This isn't a replacement for a personal training app with hundreds of exercises, video guides, and rep tracking. The app doesn't track calories, weight, body fat, or repetitions. There are no leaderboards, no badges, no gamification.

It solves a specific problem: starting and sticking with it. Three times a week, 15 minutes, is better than a perfect training plan that nobody follows through. If after a few months you want more – more intense workouts, more variety, more detailed statistics – that's the best success Just Start can have.

Privacy and data

Just Start requires no user account. On first launch, a random anonymous ID is generated. This ID is not linked to your name, email, or device. There's no password and no login.

The server stores: the anonymous ID, a freely chosen display name, weekly workout count, streak, and group memberships. No IP addresses are logged, no location data collected, no health data gathered, and no analytics tools used. The app contains no ads, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs beyond Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications on Android.

All data can be permanently deleted at any time via Settings. Details in the Privacy Policy.

Was ist Mach einfach?

Mach einfach erfordert kein Benutzerkonto.
