Mahlzeit
Never the “what are we eating tonight” question again. Nie wieder die Frage, was es heute gibt.
The weekly plan fills itself from the dishes your family actually cooks. Out of it comes the shopping list, sorted the way you walk through your store.
Download on the App Store Laden im App StoreMost families cook the same fifteen dishes on rotation. The hard part was never finding a recipe. It is deciding, at half past five, which of the fifteen it is tonight, and then remembering what that means for the shopping.
Mahlzeit takes over both. The next two weeks already carry suggestions, as far as your dishes go, drawn from your own collection and rotated so nothing comes back too soon. Swap a day, confirm it, or leave it deliberately free. When it is time to shop, the plan turns into a list you can actually walk.
How a week runs So läuft die Woche
-
The plan
The next two weeks come pre-filled, as far as your dishes go. You only touch the days you want to change.
-
The list
A handful of quick questions about what is running low, and the shopping list is ready.
-
The trip
You check things off together, live on every device, in the order you walk the aisles.

The pantry
Finishing the trip restocks the pantry. The next round of questions and the next list get sharper.
Then it starts over, a little better informed each time.

What it does Was die App macht
The plan fills itself
A weekly plan you never have to sit down and write. Suggestions come from your family's own dishes and rotate on their own, with the ones you have not had in a while moving up. One meal a day, the warm one. Breakfast and the other standing items are marked “Immer dabei” and land on every list.
The plan becomes the shopping list
Mahlzeit already knows the ingredients behind every dish, so the shopping list writes itself out of the days you are covering. No copying ingredients across, no forgetting the one thing the recipe needed.
Sorted the way you walk the store
You put the sections in order once: produce first, then the chilled aisle, then dairy, the way your stores actually have them. The order applies in every store, and for each store you pick which sections it has. The list is grouped by store and runs along your route.
The pantry keeps count
Rice does not go on the list every week. Mahlzeit tracks roughly how long a package lasts and asks only when it might be running out. Answer once, and the estimate corrects itself over time.
Your dishes, or one from the web
Tell Mahlzeit what your family eats, and it shows you the dishes that fit from a catalog of more than 150. Each one you pick becomes your own copy. Found something online instead? Share the page from Safari and Mahlzeit reads the title and ingredients off it, on your device, as a private copy. Never the instructions, never photos, never published anywhere. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence you can also photograph pages from a cookbook.
The whole family, at the same time
Plan and list stay in sync on every device. Two people in two aisles see each other's ticks appear. Everyone can plan, shop and close out a trip. When a list is marked ready, everyone who turned on the notification gets one.
Scan a receipt, see the spending
Optional, and off to the side. Photograph a paper receipt, pick a photo of one or import a PDF, and the total and date are read on your device, from the printed QR code where German stores provide one. Over a few months you get an honest picture of what groceries actually cost you, by month and by store.
Bon scannen, Ausgaben sehen
Some of it happens without opening the app at all. A widget on the home screen shows what is planned for today. During a shopping trip a Live Activity sits on the lock screen with the progress on it. And “Zum Einkaufszettel von Mahlzeit hinzufügen” works through Siri and Shortcuts; Siri then asks what to add, milk for example.
No account. No ads. Sharing only if you say so. Kein Konto. Keine Werbung. Geteilt wird nur, was du erlaubst.
Mahlzeit has no account of its own. Your plans, dishes and lists live in your iCloud, together with the purchase history. Sharing with the family runs through Apple's own iCloud sharing, so the data goes from your device to theirs without passing through anything of mine. No ads, no advertising identifiers, no third-party SDKs.
If you like, you can help Mahlzeit learn. Anyone aged 16 or over can share matches, such as which line on a receipt is which item, and usage numbers, both without your names and without prices, and both off until you switch them on. New dishes for the catalog come from my server, asked for without any identifier. Recipe pages are still fetched by your device, the same as opening them in a browser, and receipts are still read on the phone. The privacy policy spells it out.
Wer mag, hilft Mahlzeit beim Lernen.
What it is not Was Mahlzeit nicht ist
Mahlzeit is not a cookbook. No step-by-step instructions, no food photography, no ratings. It plans what gets cooked and what gets bought, not how to cook it. If you are looking for new recipes to try, this is the wrong app.
It is not a community either. No feed, no profiles, no way for anyone outside the family you invited to see your plan or your list. Quantities stay as they are set on each dish; there is no portion scaling in this version.
The app is German only and built for iPhone on iOS 26.
Mahlzeit ist kein Kochbuch. Keine Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitungen, keine Essensfotos, keine Bewertungen.
Free, with nothing to buy inside.
