Sift keeps the text of every page of your paperless-ngx archive on your iPhone. Type a word you remember, and the match arrives while you type, whether the server happens to be awake or not. Sift keeps a copy of the whole thing instead, the entire OCR text of every page, indexed right on the device. The server stays the place the documents live. It stops being the place a search has to go through.
That one difference changes what a lookup feels like. Type a name, an amount, a reference number, half a word, and the result is the sentence it was found in, not a filename. Tap it, and the page opens exactly where the word sits.
Jeder andere paperless-ngx-Client auf dem Telefon ist ein Fenster zum Server: Du durchsuchst, was er zeigt, du findest, was er findet. Sift hält stattdessen eine eigene Kopie, den kompletten OCR-Text jeder Seite, direkt auf dem Gerät indiziert. Der Server bleibt der Ort, an dem die Dokumente liegen. Er hört nur auf, der Ort zu sein, durch den jede Suche muss.
Dieser eine Unterschied verändert, wie sich eine Suche anfühlt. Tippe einen Namen, einen Betrag, ein Aktenzeichen, ein halbes Wort, und das Ergebnis ist der Satz, in dem es stand, nicht ein Dateiname. Tipp drauf, und die Seite öffnet sich genau an der Stelle.

Find it by a word you remember
Type a name, an amount, a reference number. Sift searches the text of every page on the phone and shows the sentence that matched, not a filename. Results arrive while you type.
Works with the server switched off
The whole archive is indexed on the phone: every title, every correspondent, every word of every page. Search never waits for the network. Whether the server is asleep or you are on a train, the document and its text are already there.
Send only the pages that matter
Pick the pages and send them as a PDF. Flatten them first if the file should carry images only, with no text layer left in it. Or send a link with an expiry, if the server can be reached from where the recipient is.
Share it to Sift and forget it
Share a PDF or a photo to Sift from any app. It goes into a queue that uploads in the background, waits for the server if it has to, and keeps trying until paperless-ngx has actually stored the document.
The Shelf
Documents as a shelf, newest month first, each one recognizable by its correspondent's own color. You remember roughly what it looked like and when. Start there, or jump straight to a year.

Funktioniert bei ausgeschaltetem Server
Das ganze Archiv ist auf dem Telefon indiziert: jeder Titel, jeder Korrespondent, jedes Wort jeder Seite. Die Suche wartet nie auf das Netz. Ob der Server schläft oder du im Zug sitzt: Das Dokument und sein Text sind schon da.
Nur die Seiten schicken, die zählen
Seiten auswählen und als PDF verschicken. Vorher rastern, wenn die Datei nur Bilder tragen soll, ohne Textebene. Oder einen Link mit Ablaufdatum schicken, wenn der Server von dort erreichbar ist, wo der Empfänger sitzt.
An Sift teilen und vergessen
Ein PDF oder ein Foto aus jeder App an Sift teilen. Es landet in einer Warteschlange, die im Hintergrund hochlädt, auf den Server wartet, wenn nötig, und es so lange versucht, bis paperless-ngx das Dokument wirklich gespeichert hat.
Das Regal
Dokumente als Regal, der neueste Monat zuerst, jedes erkennbar an der Farbe seines Korrespondenten. Du weißt ungefähr, wie es aussah und wann es war. Fang dort an, oder spring direkt zu einem Jahr.

Sift talks to the paperless-ngx server you point it at, and to nothing else. There is no Sift account, no cloud of mine sitting in between, no analytics, and no advertising identifiers. The server address and an access token live in the Keychain, and the on-device index, the full text of your archive, is excluded from iCloud and device backups on purpose: it is entirely rebuildable from your server in minutes, and a backup copy would just be the same text sitting somewhere else.
The only network connections the app makes are to that one server. What the server itself does with your documents is between you and paperless-ngx, outside anything this app can see. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Sift spricht mit dem paperless-ngx-Server, auf den du es zeigst, und mit sonst nichts. Es gibt kein Sift-Konto, keine Cloud von mir dazwischen, keine Analyse-Tools und keine Werbe-Kennungen. Serveradresse und Zugriffstoken liegen im Schlüsselbund, und der Index auf dem Gerät, der komplette Text deines Archivs, ist bewusst vom iCloud- und Geräte-Backup ausgeschlossen: Er lässt sich in Minuten aus deinem Server neu aufbauen, und eine Backup-Kopie wäre nur derselbe Text an einer anderen Stelle.
Die einzigen Netzwerkverbindungen der App führen zu genau diesem einen Server. Was der Server selbst mit deinen Dokumenten macht, ist Sache zwischen dir und paperless-ngx, außerhalb dessen, was diese App sehen kann. Details stehen in der Datenschutzerklärung.
What it is not Was Sift nicht ist
Sift is not paperless-ngx itself. It needs a server already running somewhere the phone can reach, at home or through your own VPN; there is no built-in demo and nothing to try without one. It does not edit titles, tags, correspondents, or custom fields either: that still happens on the server, the same way it does today. And it does not scan a document with the camera yet. Capture in this version means sharing a PDF or a photo to Sift from any app, and the file becomes part of the upload queue from there.
The app is built for iPhone, on iOS 26, in English and German.
Sift ist nicht paperless-ngx selbst. Es braucht einen Server, der schon irgendwo läuft und vom Telefon aus erreichbar ist, zuhause oder über das eigene VPN; eine eingebaute Demo gibt es nicht, und ohne Server lässt sich nichts ausprobieren. Es bearbeitet auch keine Titel, Tags, Korrespondenten oder eigenen Felder: Das passiert weiterhin auf dem Server, genau wie bisher. Und es scannt noch nicht mit der Kamera. Erfassen heißt in dieser Version: ein PDF oder ein Foto aus einer beliebigen App an Sift teilen, von dort aus wird daraus die Warteschlange.
Die App ist fürs iPhone gebaut, auf iOS 26, auf Englisch und Deutsch.
